Why We Built This Site
Wisconsin gives the public broad access to court records. The hard part is figuring out which office holds the file you want. The Clerk of Circuit Court keeps the circuit court case files, from felonies to family and civil matters. The County Clerk issues marriage licenses, while the Register of Deeds holds land and vital records. The Sheriff's Office manages the jail roster. Add the Wisconsin Court System and the Department of Corrections, and the picture gets crowded fast. We pull together the contact details, search portals, fee schedules, and request steps for each of these offices into one place.
What You Will Find Here
- Records pages by type: court records, criminal records, inmate records, warrant records, marriage and divorce, probate, and more
- Office contacts: direct contact info for the Clerk of Circuit Court, the Circuit Court, and major facilities
- Search walkthroughs: step-by-step guides for the Brown County records portal and statewide databases
- Public records help: how to file an open records request and what to expect for response time
What We Cannot Do
This is a privately run reference site. We have no connection to any Wisconsin court, clerk's office, sheriff's office, or state agency. There are real limits to what we can help with:
- We cannot file paperwork or send records requests on your behalf
- We cannot issue certified copies of any court document or vital record
- We cannot give legal advice or explain how a specific case applies to you
- We cannot guarantee that every phone number, fee, or address listed on this site is current right now
Only the issuing court or government office can provide a certified copy with an official seal. We can point you to the right office, but the document has to come from them.
Search Partners
Some pages on this site include search boxes powered by third-party providers. Those companies set their own pricing and run their own services. When you use one of those tools and it leads to a paid signup, we may earn a referral fee. That revenue helps keep this site free for visitors. We do not control what those tools charge or what shows up in their results.
Keeping Information Current
Clerk offices move. Hours change. Phone numbers get reassigned. We update pages as we hear about changes, but gaps happen. Before you drive to a courthouse, call ahead first.

Brown County Courts and Records
Brown County has a long civic history, and its courthouse is part of it. The Wisconsin Historical Society lists the Brown County Courthouse on the National Register, built between 1908 and 1911 in a Beaux Arts style.
The historical society record documents the building that still houses the circuit court today. The county's own history page adds the wider story.
That county history page traces Brown County back to 1818. Beyond court files, the Register of Deeds keeps property records you can search online.
The land records search is one more official tool this site points people toward.
Federal Court Records Context
Not every case in Brown County is a state case. Federal matters run through separate courts and systems, and we point users to those too. CourtListener is a free resource for many federal opinions and uploaded dockets.
While CourtListener is not the official docket, the official federal records sit elsewhere. Bankruptcy for the area is handled by the Eastern District of Wisconsin Bankruptcy Court.
The bankruptcy court site lists Green Bay as a hearings-only location. Federal docket access for the public runs through PACER.
A PACER account is needed to search federal dockets and documents, subject to its fees.
